Volleyball Recap: Williston Takes a Loss

Williston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Saint Francis Catholic Academy Wolves. The Red Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2019.

The 3-2 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Williston lost were decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-23, 22-25, 28-26, 15-13.

Kai Gowland paced Williston's offense, picking up 13 kills. Gowland got some help from Estella Fugate and her 13 assists. Berkley Brooks controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Morgan Ritten was her usual excellent self, getting 20 digs and seven aces for Saint Francis Catholic Academy. Those 20 digs gave Ritten a new career-high. Alyssa Pappas was another key player, getting 13 digs and two aces.

Williston's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Saint Francis Catholic Academy, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

Williston has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Lafayette on the 6th. As for Saint Francis Catholic Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Newberry on the 6th.
