Basketball Recap: North Charleston Takes a Loss

If North Charleston was riding high fresh off their 81-27 takedown of Hanahan on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The North Charleston Cougars took a blow against the Oceanside Collegiate Academy Landsharks on Saturday, falling 78-43. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Landsharks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

Despite the loss, North Charleston still got an impressive performance from Richard Hazel III, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Oceanside Collegiate Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drew Swyt led the charge by going 6 for 8 to rack up 16 points and six boards. Those 16 points gave Swyt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Thomas, who went 8 of 9 en route to 17 points.

North Charleston has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. As for Oceanside Collegiate Academy, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 17-1.

North Charleston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-52 victory against Battery Creek on the 5th. As for Oceanside Collegiate Academy, they have also already played their next game, a 56-42 win against Orangeburg-Wilkinson on the 4th.
