Western International hasn't had much luck against St. Mary's Prep recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Cowboys will face off against the Eaglets at 4:30 p.m. Western International will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Western International not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 4th (when they won 24-0). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Mumford a 20-0 shutout. While the Cowboys didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Johnnie Salazar made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Salazar was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Western International let Jhon Soto-Ferrerira and Walter Fahoome run wild. Soto-Ferrerira went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Fahoome went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave Soto-Ferrerira a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Grullon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBI.
Western International was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .684. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's Prep waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Knights.
St. Mary's Prep pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Western International, their record is now 10-3.
Western International came up short against St. Mary's Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-0. Can the Cowboys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
