Softball Game Preview: Antioch Sequoits vs. Taft Eagles

The Antioch Sequoits will take on the Taft Eagles at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Taft will be up against a hot Antioch team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. Everything went the Sequoits' way against Lakes on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-4 win.

Meanwhile, Taft never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Hancock as they made off with a 13-0 victory. Taft hasn't had any issues with Hancock recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Michaela Power was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Victoria Perez was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Ginevra Kellogg was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Taft kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Antioch's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Taft, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

Everything went Antioch's way against Taft in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Antioch made off with a 12-2 win. Do the Sequoits have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
