Football Recap: Northwestern Comes Up Short

Northwestern was the 45-27 winner over Eastern when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Tigers were beaten by the Comets 44-14 on Friday. The Tigers were down 30-7 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Although Northwestern took the loss, they still got scores from Michael Arrick and Sam Jones.

Eastern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isaiah Pickett led the charge by rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns Pickett has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Bentley Hullinger, who picked up 148 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Northwestern's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Eastern, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwestern is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Southwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eastern, they will take on Delphi Community at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Comets their first taste of in-conference action this season.
