Basketball Recap: Annie Myers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Erie over Fredonia

After flying high against Osawatomie last Friday, Erie came back down to earth. The Erie Red Devils fell just short of the Fredonia Yellowjackets by a score of 40-37 on Tuesday. The Red Devils haven't had much luck with the Yellowjackets recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Erie's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annie Myers, who posted ten points. Jacksen Powell was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

Erie's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Fredonia, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-9.

Erie and Fredonia could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Erie will challenge Humboldt at 6:00 p.m. on Friday down 165 places (318 vs. 153). Similarly, Fredonia (ranked 310th) will meet Eureka (ranked 42nd) on Friday.
