Basketball Recap: Claremore Comes Up Short

If Claremore was feeling good fresh off their 62-12 takedown of Nathan Hale last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Claremore Zebras came up short against the Shawnee Wolves on Tuesday, falling 53-29. While losing is never fun, the Zebras can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Wolves are ranked 79th).

When it comes to explaining why Claremore lost, don't look at Asia Roper. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points and six rebounds. The match was Roper's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Toney Gibson, who earned no points along with 11 boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Claremore smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Claremore has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Shawnee, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Claremore has already played their next game (against Guthrie), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Shawnee also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Tuttle.
