Baseball Recap: Springfield's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Springfield had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Marple Newtown Fightin' Tigers a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Fightin' Tigers back in March, they had to take a 7-4 defeat.

The result came thanks to Jack Rae's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Springfield's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jake Lennon, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Nick Corse was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 3-11. As for Marple Newtown, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-7.

Coincidentally, Springfield and Marple Newtown will both be playing Penncrest the next time they take the field. The Cougars will head out to face the Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, while the Fightin' Tigers will head out to face them at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
