Baseball Recap: Hazen Gets the Win

Hazen hadn't done well against Liberty recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Highlanders came out on top in a nail-biter against the Patriots, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Highlanders have posted against the Patriots since April 21, 2022.

Logan Grossnickle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hazen is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Joey Rubino was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Hazen is 3-1 when Rubino posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Troy Paternoster, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Hazen's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Liberty, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Hazen will head out on the road to take on Redmond at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Liberty, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Juanita at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
