Basketball Recap: Animas Takes a Loss

Animas was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 28th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Lordsburg Mavericks and fell 65-31. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-32 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Animas lost, don't look at James Jarvis. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 9 en route to 14 points. Tallon Marble was another key player, going 5 for 12 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds.

It was another big night for Zeke De La O, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten boards for Lordsburg. That makes it five consecutive games in which De La O has scored at least a third of Lordsburg's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Scott, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Animas' loss dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Lordsburg, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-10.

Animas has already played their next matchup, a 73-15 defeat against Magdalena on the 23rd. As for Lordsburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 60-49 loss against Cobre on the 23rd.
