Recap: Hayfield Hawks vs. Largo Lions

If the Hayfield Hawks were feeling good off their 80-38 takedown of the Lewis Lancers last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Hayfield took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Largo. While losing is never fun, Hayfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 99th in Virginia, while Largo is ranked 25th in Maryland).

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Phenix Card, who scored 15 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Card scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Mcfarlane, who scored 12 points.

Hayfield now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Largo, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Hayfield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against New Town at 1:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Largo won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Constitution at 1:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Constitution knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Largo likes a good challenge.
