Basketball Recap: Pace Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jazlene Plata and Bre Nelson

Pace lost against Rivera back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Pace Vikings fell 45-38 to the Rivera Raiders. The Vikings' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Bre Nelson and Jazlene Plata certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Nelson dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards, while Plata posted nine points. That was a full 39.5% of Pace's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Rivera to victory were Cassandra Pardo and Xandria Johnson. Pardo scored 16 points and four steals, while Johnson put up seven points in addition to 14 rebounds and five steals. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last 16 games she's played. Tiffany Garza was another key player, putting up six points.

Pace's loss dropped their record down to 12-19. As for Rivera, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-14 record this season.

Pace didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 43-37 defeat against Mercedes on the 4th. As for Rivera, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 70-25 win against Weslaco East on the 4th.
