Preview: Yulee Hornets vs. Menendez Falcons
The Yulee Hornets will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Menendez Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Yulee put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by West Nassau at home to the tune of 33-6. 33 seems to be a good number for Yulee as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Shamarion Gibbs was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Teont? Artis-croxton was another key contributor, rushing for 123 yards and a touchdown.
Menendez fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They had just enough and edged Matanzas out 14-12.
Menendez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jason Watson led the charge by picking up 97 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Downey, who threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns.
Yulee's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.0 points per game. As for Menendez, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Yulee against Menendez in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 35-7 victory. Does Yulee have another victory up their sleeve, or will Menendez turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
