Football Game Preview: Akins Eagles vs. Austin Maroons

Akins is 2-8 against Austin since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Maroons at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Akins' offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Westlake two weeks ago. They had to suffer through a 66-0 loss at the hands of the Chaparrals. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 713th, while the Chaparrals are ranked sixth).

Meanwhile, Austin played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Westlake and fell 58-14. The defeat continues a trend for the Maroons in their meetings with the Chaparrals: they've now lost nine in a row.

Austin's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Akins, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.

Akins was dealt a bruising 49-7 loss at the hands of Austin in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
