Basketball Recap: Mercy Prep Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Myra Nelsen and Kyra Stuart

Mercy Prep Academy lost against Waco Christian last Tuesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Mercy Prep Academy Royals took a 51-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Waco Christian Warriors. The Royals just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row.

Mercy Prep Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Kyra Stuart and Myra Nelsen. Stuart posted 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Nelsen almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 13 boards. That was a full 36.8% of Mercy Prep Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Naomi Youngers, who scored six points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Mercy Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Zeriya Potts, who dropped a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 steals for Waco Christian. Potts has become a key player for Waco Christian: the team is 4-1 when she posts at least ten boards, but 3-4 otherwise. Dani Hanan was another key player, going 8 for 14 to rack up 17 points and seven steals.

Mercy Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Waco Christian, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Mercy Prep Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-11 defeat against Grayson Christian on the 7th. Waco Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
