Basketball Recap: Gilman Takes a Loss

If Gilman was riding high fresh off their 58-16 takedown of Cornell last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gilman Pirates took a blow against the Greenwood Indians on Tuesday, falling 51-23. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Gilman saw an underclassman step up: freshman Reece Weir posted four points in addition to 13 rebounds and four steals. Weir is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayleigh James, who scored three points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Gilman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Gilman's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Greenwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Gilman didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 45-20 loss against Neillsville on the 31st. As for Greenwood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 44-35 victory against Colby on the 31st.
