Preview: First Flight Nighthawks vs. Albemarle School Colts
First Flight has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Tuesday. They will take on the Albemarle School Colts at 5:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, First Flight really took it to Cape Hatteras for the full four quarters, racking up a 63-22 victory at home. With First Flight ahead 34-11 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Aubrey Phanton was the offensive standout of the game as she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Josephine Voight, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Albemarle School entered their tilt with Ocracoke with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Albemarle School claimed a resounding 55-6 victory over Ocracoke on the road. Given Albemarle School's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Ocracoke is ranked 428th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madelyn Delosreyes was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 10 steals. Delosreyes is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Braelyne Brewer was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds.
First Flight's win lifted them to 2-0 while Cape Hatteras' loss dropped them down to 1-3.
Everything came up roses for First Flight against Albemarle School in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 50-22 win. Will First Flight repeat their success, or does Albemarle School have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
