Hugo and Antlers are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. Hugo will square off against Antlers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hugo has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Antlers will arrive with three straight wins.
Hugo fell victim to Battiest and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Panthers.
Hugo got a good showing from C.J. Ward, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Antlers). They blew past Dickson 13-6 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Max Duncan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Case Moore, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Walls, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Antlers always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Antlers pushed their record up to 3-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Hugo, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
Hugo couldn't quite get it done against Antlers in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can Hugo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
