Basketball Recap: Apex Cougars vs. Cary Imps
The Apex Cougars had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 38-33 victory over Cary on Tuesday. For Apex, this counts as revenge for the 61-53 defeat the Imps walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Apex's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zaelyn White, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Jaden Maynard, who scored nine points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Several Imps players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Stone Holcombe, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayshone Gullatt, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Cary smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Apex's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13. As for Cary, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15.
Apex will challenge the Catamounts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Panther Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully the Cougars like a good challenge. As for Cary, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Green Level will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
