Baseball Recap: Orleans Victorious

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Orleans had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They never let the Shoals Jug Rox get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Jug Rox recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Owen Gilbert and Kaden Berning were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gilbert pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Berning struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Orleans is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-17 otherwise. At the plate, Gilbert went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Berning went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Gilbert has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Troy Dille and Dane Freed did most of the damage at the plate: Dille went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Freed got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Dille has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Connor Fitzenrider, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Orleans' win bumped their record up to 7-18. As for Shoals, they are on a 26-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Coming up, Orleans will challenge Vincennes Rivet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. Shoals does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
