Baseball Recap: Churchill Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Churchill had lost four games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 5-7 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They won by a run and slipped past the Ashland Grizzlies 5-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 on Tuesday.

Churchill's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Chase Hartley, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Those two hits gave Hartley a new career-high. Carlos Barajas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Ashland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games.

On Ashland's side, Freeman Rountree spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. Rountree has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Churchill will have a chance to go back-to-back against Ashland: the pair will be back at it again later today.
