Baseball Recap: Williamsburg Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

Williamsburg had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Glendale on Thursday. The Blue Pirates put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 13-3 win. The Blue Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Preston Long made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Williamsburg got a massive performance out of Andrew Clark, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Clark a new career-high. Logan Brantner was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Williamsburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glendale only posted a batting average of .238.

Williamsburg is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Glendale, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Coincidentally, Williamsburg and Glendale will both be playing Curwensville the next time they take the field. The Vikings will head out to face the Golden Tide at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, while the Blue Pirates will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
