Basketball Recap: Winfield Takes a Loss

Winfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 62-31 loss at the hands of the Arkansas City Bulldogs. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-11.

Arkansas City had a senior duo take command as Saliyah Henderson-Johnson almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals and Savannah Phillips went 6 for 12 en route to 20 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Henderson-Johnson a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Kierslynn Waggoner, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 14 points.

Winfield's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Arkansas City, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Winfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 0-0 draw against Rose Hill on the 31st. As for Arkansas City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-32 win against Collegiate on the 31st.
