Basketball Recap: Emma Bird's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Littleton over Heritage

Littleton came up into this matchup off a tough 20-point loss last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Heritage Eagles by a score of 35-32 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Lions have suffered since December 17, 2024.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emma Bird, who posted eight points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Lena Drakos, who earned six points.

Even though they lost, Littleton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Among those leading the charge was Payton Jumps, who had 15 points. Those 15 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Skylar Peterson, who scored five points.

Littleton has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season. As for Heritage, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Littleton will face off against Dakota Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Heritage, they will square off against Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Regis Jesuit knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Heritage likes a good challenge.
