Freeburg has gone 9-1 against Salem recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Midgets will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Freeburg sitting on three straight victories and Salem on seven.

While Freeburg's win against Breese Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Midgets had just enough and edged out the Cougars 7-6.

Meanwhile, Salem earned a 5-1 victory over East Alton-Wood River on Thursday.

Breanna Thurman was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Lipe, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Mya Russell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Salem's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Freeburg, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Freeburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Salem in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Midgets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
