Preview: Taft Toreadors vs. Eagle Rock Eagles

Two dominant signal callers in Devon Conroy and Reilly Brousseau are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Taft Toreadors will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Eagle Rock Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 83-6, which was the final score in Taft's tilt against Birmingham on Friday. While losing is never fun, Taft can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 822nd, while Birmingham is ranked 178th).

Meanwhile, Eagle Rock was the victim of a tough 35-13 loss at the hands of Franklin on Friday. Eagle Rock has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Eagle Rock got a solid performance out of Brousseau, who rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 209 yards and a touchdown.

Taft's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.0 points per game. As for Eagle Rock, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Taft and Eagle Rock have no problem gaining yardage. Taft has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 376.7 total yards per game. However, it's not like Eagle Rock struggles in that department as they've been even better at 412.2 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.

Taft was dealt a bruising 50-0 loss at the hands of Eagle Rock when the teams last played back in August of 2021. Can Taft avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
