Baseball Recap: Mansueto Gets the Win

Mansueto's game back in March was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Hansberry Bengals. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Leopards' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Oswaldo Patino-Gonzalez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mansueto got a massive performance out of Alfredo Santana, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those RBI marked the first that Santana brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Resendiz, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4.

Mansueto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mansueto's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Hansberry, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mansueto will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Pritzker on the 26th. As for Hansberry, they will face off against The Noble Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
