Basketball Game Preview: Alamo Heights Mules vs. Smithson Valley Rangers

The Alamo Heights Mules will challenge the Smithson Valley Rangers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alamo Heights is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62 points per game this season.

Alamo Heights is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Veterans Memorial just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to the Patriots 43-37. The game marked the Mules' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite their loss, Alamo Heights saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gunnar Jones, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Munguia, who posted seven points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Smithson Valley). They walked away with a 78-70 victory over Boerne-Champion on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Rangers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 307th, while the Chargers are ranked 67th).

Alamo Heights' defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-5. As for Smithson Valley, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Alamo Heights didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Smithson Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 66-62 win. Will Alamo Heights repeat their success, or does Smithson Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
