Baseball Recap: Lamar Drops Highest Score of Season Against Rye

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lamar). They blew past the Rye Thunderbolts 18-0 on Monday. The Thunder have beaten the Thunderbolts the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Thunderbolts has come to flipping the script.

The team relied heavily on Cael Buxton, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Alex Santos was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Lamar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Lamar pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Rye, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lamar will challenge Alamosa at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Rye, they will face off against St. Mary's at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.25 runs per game on average), something Rye will no doubt try to take advantage of.
