Baseball Game Preview: Westhill Warriors vs. Homer Trojans

Westhill is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Monday. They will host the Homer Trojans at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Westhill's favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Homer has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Westhill's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over South Jefferson.

Anthony Sampo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Sampo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Kevin Sisson looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, Eric Holstein was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-4. Holstein is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Kellen Pens was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases.

Meanwhile, Homer narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Chittenango 3-2. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Westhill now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Homer, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
