The Doddridge County Bulldogs will face off against the Gilmer County Titans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Doddridge County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Doddridge County was able to grind out a solid victory over Bridgeport, taking the game 9-5. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Kamryn Satterfield made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Kambre Crock was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since April 5th. Olivia See was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Doddridge County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Gilmer County entered their tilt with Midland Trail on Monday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They had just enough and edged out the Patriots 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Titans have posted against the Patriots since April 16, 2016.
Kenley Hartshorn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Gilmer County got a massive performance out of Emeri Hickman, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Stoddard, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Gilmer County pushed their record up to 19-5 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Doddridge County, their record is now 21-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Doddridge County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Gilmer County struggles in that department as they've averaged .408. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Doddridge County couldn't quite finish off Gilmer County in their previous matchup on Thursday and fell 8-6. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
