Softball Game Preview: Portsmouth Trojans vs. Green Bobcats

The Portsmouth Trojans will face off against the Green Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Portsmouth will be strutting in after a win while Green will be coming in after a defeat.

On Monday, Portsmouth earned a 6-2 victory over Fairland.

Katie Ankrom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caitlyn Galloway, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Amya Carr was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Portsmouth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Green fell victim to Clay and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 16-0. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Portsmouth's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Green, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Portsmouth took their victory against Green when the teams last played back in April of 2018 by a conclusive 16-4 score. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
