Stanton County won the last time they faced Springfield, and Avery Scott did her part to make sure it happened again. The Stanton County Trojans snuck past the Springfield Longhorns with a 39-34 victory on Tuesday thanks to Scott, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 25 rebounds. She has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 11 times she's played.
The team also got some help courtesy of Kynzi Fehringer, who posted seven points and 12 rebounds. Stanton County is 5-2 when Fehringer posts eight or more boards, but 4-5 otherwise.
Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jersey Speck, who had 13 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cobi Mackey, who earned 11 points and three blocks.
The win (which was Stanton County's third in a row) raised their record to 9-7. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 36.8% in those games and 17.2% outside of them. As for Springfield, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 13-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stanton County will face off against Wichita County on Friday.
