Basketball Recap: Woods Charter Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the Woods Charter Wolves were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 53-47 to the Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions. While the Wolves didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Flying Lions 14-7 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Woods Charter lost, don't look at Alden Phelps. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points along with seven boards and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Richardson, who had 12 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Woods Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Excelsior Classical Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alpha Brothers, who went 9 of 15 on his way to 21 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Brothers a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shawn Francis-Service, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 16 points and four steals.

Woods Charter now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Excelsior Classical Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Woods Charter wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-20 victory against River Mill on the 13th. As for Excelsior Classical Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 42-40 defeat against Woods Charter on the 16th.
