Softball Recap: Charlotte Catholic Comes Up Short

Charlotte Catholic came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-3 to the Providence Panthers. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Rachel Wildman was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Wildman wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Danika Morris, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Charlotte Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Providence, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-1.

Looking ahead, Charlotte Catholic will head out to challenge Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Charlotte Catholic's pitchers better be ready for this one: Independence has averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season. As for Providence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Butler at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Butler will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
