Crimson Cliffs is 8-2 against Dixie since September of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Crimson Cliffs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Desert Hills, who was ranked seventh at the time (Crimson Cliffs was ranked 19th). The Mustangs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thunder on Thursday. The Mustangs' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Crimson Cliffs was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Desert Hills work for it, especially in the third set. The final score came out to 25-12, 20-25, 28-26, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Dixie didn't have quite enough to beat Morgan on Wednesday and fell 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Flyers in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost six in a row.
Dixie started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-10.
Despite the defeat, Dixie saw an underclassman step up: sophomore MJ Mauinatu had ten digs, two aces, and one block. Mauinatu has been hot for a while, having also posted 13 or more assists the last 16 times she's played.
Dixie's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Crimson Cliffs, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Crimson Cliffs has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Dixie struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
