Softball Recap: ITW David Speer Academy's Loss Ends 11-Game Winning Streak at Home

ITW David Speer Academy dropped their record down to 12-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell 9-6 to the Payton College Prep Grizzlies. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pride of the 6-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Anaiyah Costoso made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Miabella Collazo, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Payton College Prep, their win bumped their record up to 3-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Payton College Prep's side, Jacqueline Madda made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Madda was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Evelyn Suss was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Hamilton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, ITW David Speer Academy will square off against DePaul College Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Payton College Prep, they will face off against Reavis at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
