Preview: Wray Eagles vs. Strasburg Indians
The Wray Eagles are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Strasburg Indians at 1:00 p.m. on November 18th. One thing working in Wray's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five games.
Wray extended their postseason success on Saturday against Holyoke. They managed a 41-35 win over the Dragons. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Wray's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Casey Midcap led the charge by rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 62 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Meisner, who rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Wray's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Brody Richards.
Meanwhile, Strasburg waltzed into Saturday's matchup with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They blew past Gunnison, posting a 56-14 win on the road. Strasburg might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight games by 21 points or more this season.
Strasburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Landen Martin out in front who threw for 259 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Another player making a difference was Thomas Devlin, who rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry.
Wray has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Strasburg, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Wray has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 225 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Strasburg struggles in that department as they've been even better at 230.5 per game. It's looking like Saturday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Everything came up roses for Wray against Strasburg when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 28-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wray since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
