Preview: Pace Vikings vs. Weslaco East Wildcats

Pace is 0-3 against Weslaco East since November of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Pace Vikings will be playing at home against the Weslaco East Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.

Last Friday, Pace had to suffer through a rough 48-14 loss at the hands of Donna. Pace was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-7.

Despite the loss, Pace had strong showings from Adrian Sauceda, who gained 155 total yards and a touchdown, and Angel Galvan, who threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Sauceda is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.

Meanwhile, even though Donna scored an imposing 37 points two weeks ago, Weslaco East still came out on top. Weslaco East sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-37 win over Donna.

It was another big night for Alex Martinez, who rushed for 229 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Martinez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Jediah Rivens, who picked up 130 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Pace has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Weslaco East, their victory bumped their record up to 4-4.

Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Pace has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 192 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Weslaco East struggles in that department as they've been even better at 255.5 per game. It's looking like Saturday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Pace might still be hurting after the 30-7 loss they got from Weslaco East when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Pace, Ashton Guajardo (who rushed for 46 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
