Baseball Game Preview: Mather Rangers vs. Roosevelt Rough Riders

The Mather Rangers will challenge the Roosevelt Rough Riders at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mather is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Northridge just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Knights, falling 22-4.

David Goytia and Jeriel Mejias did some serious damage despite the final result: Goytia got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Mejias got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. Mejias is becoming a predictor of Mather's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Aaron Roman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 19-9 to Clark.

Adrian Vera made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Vera is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rigoberto Padilla Puerto, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Mather, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
