Basketball Recap: Gulf Coast HEAT Takes Down Canterbury in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Gulf Coast HEAT had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They secured a 64-60 W over the Canterbury Crusaders. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 63-31 back in December of 2024.

Gulf Coast HEAT found their leader in sophomore Steven Scott, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 18 boards. Scott is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Cayden Bosso, who went 8 of 16 to rack up 19 points and six rebounds.

Canterbury's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lou Donnelly, who posted 19 points and seven assists. That's the most points Donnelly has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Thomas, who went 7 for 8 on his way to 18 points.

Gulf Coast HEAT's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.0 points over those games. As for Canterbury, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-11.

Gulf Coast HEAT has already played their next match, a 58-32 win against Sarasota Christian on the 7th. Canterbury does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
