Baseball Game Preview: Park City Miners vs. Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle

For the first time this season, Park City will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will welcome the Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Juan Diego Catholic took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Park City, who comes in off a win.

Park City is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Dixie, who was ranked 12th at the time (Park City was ranked 14th). Park City came out on top against Dixie by a score of 6-1 last Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Miners.

Colton Schmidt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has become a key player for Park City: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Schmidt was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alex Brannigan was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Joey Breza also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Juan Diego Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Pine View.

Juan Diego Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Park City, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
