Recap: Deer Trail Eagles vs. Idalia Wolves
The Deer Trail Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Idalia 50-16. Deer Trail was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-5.
Jaden Gudenkauf and Ally Hardwick certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Gudenkauf scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Hardwick scored six points along with five blocks and two steals. Gudenkauf is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Deer Trail struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Idalia racked up 15 assists.
Jaylyn Kechter was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds for Idalia. Kechter is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Krista Wieser was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five assists and five steals.
Deer Trail bumped their record down to 2-6 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.7 points per game. As for Idalia, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Deer Trail won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Kiowa at 4:00 p.m. on January 10th. Kiowa is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Idalia, they will head out on the road to face off against Otis at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Otis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Friday.
