Softball Game Preview: Westlake Thunder vs. Copper Hills Grizzlies

Westlake is 0-4 against Copper Hills since May of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Thunder will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.

Westlake is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Mountain Ridge, who was ranked 13th at the time (Westlake was ranked 17th). The Thunder came up short against the Sentinels on Tuesday, falling 9-3.

Tayvree Walker was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

Meanwhile, Copper Hills waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Miners by a score of 10-7.

Kennedy Jennings looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kimber Johnson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Averi Yazzie, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Copper Hills' win bumped their record up to 16-6. As for Westlake, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7-1.
