The Flowing Wells Caballeros are taking a road trip to take on the Mountain View Mountain Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Flowing Wells has given up an average of 67.8 points per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Flowing Wells took a 25-point defeat the last time they faced off against Sunnyside, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Caballeros came out on top in a nail-biter against the Blue Devils on Saturday, sneaking past 70-68.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Isaias Encinas and Carlos Cardenas. Encinas had a great game and posted 17 points along with six assists and three steals. Meanwhile, Cardenas did his best for the losing side, putting up 12 points.
Meanwhile, Mountain View waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Apaches by a score of 50-38.
Mountain View's win came from a few key players Flowing Wells will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Daniel Anumba, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more boards the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Reidhead, who earned ten points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.
Mountain View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.
Flowing Wells now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mountain View, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Flowing Wells has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34 boards per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Flowing Wells ended up a good deal behind Mountain View when the teams last played back in December of 2024, losing 63-49. Thankfully for the Caballeros, Isaiah Romero (who went 11-for-20 on his way to 26 points and seven assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
