Softball Game Preview: Corona del Mar Sea Kings vs. Huntington Beach Oilers

Corona del Mar hasn't had much luck against Huntington Beach recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Sea Kings will head out on the road to square off against the Oilers at 4:00 p.m. Corona del Mar has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Corona del Mar lost 17-2 to Fountain Valley on Thursday. The Sea Kings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Corona del Mar saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Daniella D'Agostino was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Huntington Beach came tearing into Thursday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Sailors 13-1. Considering the Oilers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Huntington Beach pushed their record up to 19-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Corona del Mar, their loss dropped their record down to 8-16.

Corona del Mar might still be hurting after the 22-0 defeat they got from Huntington Beach when the teams last played back in March. Can the Sea Kings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
