Football Recap: Vernon Starts Season with Victory at Home + How To Watch

Vernon took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They blew past the Burkburnett Bulldogs 30-7. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Lions had established a 20-point advantage.

One reason for the win was Vernon's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Adrain Felton was especially locked on to Burkburnett's QB and sacked him three times. Felton has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last six times he's played.

Despite the loss, Burkburnett still got an impressive performance from Luke Kirkpatrick, who rushed for 78 yards and one score. An impressive showing, but Kirkpatrick really ramped things up playing D: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles.

Looking ahead, Vernon will challenge Gainesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Burkburnett, they will face off against Henrietta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
