Baseball Recap: Jamestown Starts Season with Victory Against Madison

Jamestown had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Madison Panthers a 19-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for Jamestown, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Anthony Coonce made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Coonce was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs.

In other batting news, Tate Duncan was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Zack Wells, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jamestown will challenge St. Elizabeth at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Madison, they will take on Paris at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
