Baseball Recap: Zuni Victorious

Zuni posted their closest win since April 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Wingate Bears 10-8. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Zuni let Dionte Ukestine and Durwyn Laiteyse run wild. Ukestine scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3, while Laiteyse went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, Ukestine is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Keenan Ondelacy, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Zuni's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Wingate, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Zuni beat the Bears by a score of 5-1 later that day.
