Softball Preview: Leland Chargers vs. Branham Bruins
Leland is 1-9 against Branham since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Leland Chargers will be staying on the road to face off against the Branham Bruins at 4:00 p.m. Leland will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Leland gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Live Oak as Leland made off with an 11-4 win.
Megan Lamy tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hannah Ames, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and a stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaci Yoshioka-Wong, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Branham had just enough and edged Santa Teresa out 4-2 on Friday.
Jacqueline Connolly Hojas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Abigail Fales was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Leland's record is now 10-5. As for Branham, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Leland was able to grind out a solid victory over Branham in their previous matchup back in March, winning 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Leland since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
